Seasons of Grief

Seasons of Grief

“I’ve seen all kinds of weather, all the kinds there are. I’ve experienced all four seasons many times, and I know that I’m safe in them all. These are changes that come with certainty. I know what comes next, again and again, and there’s comfort in that. Death is certain too, though we never know when this storm will tear through our lives.

As you ride out the torrent of this storm, take comfort in the certainty that you are living through one of our greatest human mysteries and you are safe. The storm will pass, you will land safely, you’ll feel the sun on your soul again.” From ‘Companion in Grief’ – Page 214, July 15

I wrote these words about living with grief, but they apply today to the experience we’re having in the midst of a global virus as well. We know from past tragedies that they do not last forever. We also know that living is filled with uncertainty. Will we make it through this? We don’t know for sure. But you are here right now in this moment and you are safe right now. Face tomorrow when it comes.
